Family Life Projects Trust

Family Life Projects Trust helps people out of poverty in Bulawayo and Masvingo, Zimbabwe, one of the poorest countries in Africa. Unemployment, poverty rates and living costs are high, so people face a daily struggle to survive. Many families have split up with spouses and parents living in different countries to find work, whilst the rest of the family is left behind in Zimbabwe. Many children have been orphaned by the HIV and AIDS pandemic and are left caring for younger siblings or living on the streets.

E3’s partnership is:

  • Helping 87 women through self-help groups so they can earn a living through sustainable agriculture.

  • Supporting 110 orphaned and vulnerable children with uniform and shoes and biblical Life Skills workshops through our Back to School programme.

  • Paying school fees for 32 orphaned and vulnerable children. This means they do not drop out because parents/guardians cannot pay the fees and their self-esteem and academic performance increase because they are no longer stigmatised by being removed from classes whilst others are continuing with learning.

  • Enabling 13 pastors to provide for their families and those in need through farming projects.

  • Running marriage seminars and workshops on gender-based violence for church leaders to help them raise awareness, provide support and encourage behaviour change in their churches and communities.

  • Grant from E3: £8,000

  • Grant for Pastors Connect Zimbabwe: £8,000 to purchase a tractor to help expand agricultural projects for Family Life Projects Trust and Scripture Union Zimbabwe.

Mkhululi Sihlola and his wife Naume lead the project.

Children were delighted with their new uniform and shoes! Naume from Family Life says:

"For the children, being given new uniform and shoes not only raises their self-esteem, but the shoes also protect them from diseases during the rainy season. God bless the E3 team."

Family Life Projects Trust is helping 30 pastors through the Pastors’ Economic Empowerment Project. The pastors not only struggle to provide for their own families, but also for vulnerable church members and those in the wider community. Each pastor represents a church with an average of 90 members. The pastors have access to peri-urban pieces of land that they are cultivating to feed their families and they sell or share the surplus. It is more efficient to use a tractor to till the land, so E3 has bought a tractor to help develop agricultural activities.

“We really are thankful for the work that E3 is doing in supporting us financially with the agricultural projects. E3 has been our only funder during COVID-19 because all the others couldn’t fund us any longer. Without E3, I don’t know where we would be.” Pastor Sithole

We really want to thank God for E3 and the support for pastors here. Vegetable farming started as a vision and now it has come to pass. The cabbages are ready for the market. As a pastor, you do not just feed your family, but also church members who are struggling.” Pastor Sihlola
